It all began with Anthony Alafaci, a determined individual who, after completing year 10 at high school, embarked on a journey that would lead to the establishment of a plumbing empire.
The Apprenticeship with Hodgson & Lee:
Selected from a pool of over 200 candidates, Anthony Alafaci, secured an apprenticeship with Hodgson & Lee, a commercial plumbing firm, in January 1990. A year later, Hodgson & Lee general manager's move to Plumbing Enterprises marked a significant shift in Anthony Alafaci’s career. Seeking experience in the residential plumbing sector in 1992, Anthony Alafaci, joined Raisenberg Plumbing until unforeseen circumstances led him to search for a new employer. He then joined Bringelly Plumbing and worked there until the Company went into receivership in 1993.
The Private Ventures and A & A Plumbing Services:
During his apprenticeship, Anthony Alafaci's extensive family circle became a source of continuous referrals for private plumbing work. Collaborating with a mate named Alex, Anthony Alafaci, successfully managed private projects after hours and on the weekends, and in January 1994, they took a bold step, establishing A & A Plumbing Services. The venture thrived for almost two years before the partners, who had different aspirations, went their separate ways in late 1995, dividing work and clients.
The Birth of Planet Plumbing:
On December 14, 1995, Anthony Alafaci, found his first apprentice, marking the inception of Planet Plumbing. The business rapidly expanded, taking on larger projects and growing in strength. In 2004, an opportunity to go interstate presented itself, leading Anthony Alafaci, to establish Planet Plumbing QLD in Brisbane. This move marked the beginning of the company's national expansion.
National Expansion and Challenges:
The years that followed saw Planet Plumbing expanding its reach, with offices in Perth and Melbourne. In 2010, the company became the largest plumbing firm in Perth, experiencing a remarkable 500% turnover growth in just three years. However, a subsequent sale to a private equity firm in 2011 proved challenging, leading to some financial setbacks.
Recovery and East Coast Focus:
After regaining 100% ownership in 2012, Anthony Alafaci, steered Planet Plumbing through challenging times. In 2018, after 12 years in the west, the decision was made to close the doors in WA and focus solely on the east coast market. This strategic move paid off, and by 2023, Planet Plumbing emerged as the market leader along the east coast of Australia.
