Last week, we caught up with Zoe Shannon at our Shoalhaven project! It was a fantastic opportunity to chat with her and hear about her journey with Planet Plumbing.
Here are some questions we shared with Zoe.
Q: Planet Plumbing emphasises sustainability. How do you integrate environmentally friendly practices into your project coordination processes?
A: Integrating sustainability into project coordination involves prioritising environmentally friendly practices at every stage. This includes using eco-friendly materials and technologies, implementing energy-efficient designs, managing waste responsibly through recycling and reduction strategies, and ensuring water efficiency and conservation measures are in place. Engaging stakeholders and contractors in sustainability goals, monitoring environmental impacts closely. By embedding these practices into project planning, execution, and monitoring, we contribute to both environmental stewardship and project success.
Q: What aspects of the project you’re working on now do you find most rewarding and fulfilling?
A: The most rewarding aspects of the project I'm currently engaged in include seeing the tangible progress and transformation of the construction site as it evolves from plans on paper to a physical structure. It's fulfilling to witness the collaborative efforts of the team and the contributions of various stakeholders coming together smoothly. Additionally, overcoming challenges and finding innovative solutions along the way adds to the satisfaction of achieving milestones and delivering high-quality results that meet or exceed client expectations. The opportunity to make a positive impact on the community and environment through sustainable practices also adds a deep sense of fulfilment to the project.
Q: What advice would you give to others aspiring to manage similar large-scale projects in the construction industry?
A: For aspiring managers of large-scale construction projects, focusing on a few key areas can significantly enhance success. Firstly, understand the project thoroughly by immersing yourself in its scope, objectives, and client requirements from the outset. Secondly, prioritise building a competent and cohesive team, ensuring roles are clear, and skills complement each other. Thirdly, maintain open and effective communication with all stakeholders to foster transparency and alignment throughout the project lifecycle. Lastly, embrace adaptability, continuously refine your problem-solving skills, and prioritise safety and quality at every stage. Learning from each project and striving for continuous improvement will ultimately strengthen your capabilities in large projects
Q: What’s the best thing about working at Planet Plumbing?
A: Having the craic!
For those who don't know, "craic" is Irish good time/s.
